I thought you and your readers might be interested in learning about how to care for an aging pet.

Forty-five million strong, the “Pet Boomer” generation (cats and dogs age seven and older) is experiencing many of the same health problems as their “Human Boomer” counterparts. Yet, most pet owners fail to notice these signs, therefore missing the opportunity to proactively manage their pets’ health to extend their four-legged friends’ lives by years.

Here are a few resources for you and your readers to use to learn about the Pet Boomer population:
1) Online Video: This short video segment from Marty Becker, DVM, a nationally recognized pet expert, author and Good Morning America contributor, features five common health conditions in aging pets. Please feel free to link to the video segment from http://www.petboomers.com. If you prefer, I can also send you the link to the video on YouTube so that you can embed it on your blog.
2) Not-for-Profit book called The Merial / Merch Manual for Pet Health: This manual, authored by 200 veterinarians, is the first comprehensive guide to health care of all pets, especially the Pet Boomer population. If you are interested, I can send you a copy of The Merial/Merck Manual for Pet Health and any supporting photography for your blog.
3) PetBoomers.com: This new Web site is a resource for all pet owners. It offers quizzes, facts, statistics on the aging pet population and is a terrific resource for pet owners dealing with traveling with a pet, pet poisons and emergencies.

If you are interested in any or all three of these resources, please email me and I will be glad to share more information or provide digital assets.

I think you and your readers will find these resources highly valuable for owners with pets of all ages, especially those with pets entering their boomer years.

Best,
Sarah Woodwardsarah.woodward@mslpr.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164642.post-11651703806232742042008-04-24T12:11:00.000-07:002008-04-24T12:11:00.000-07:00Anonymous, you CAN get back vet bills. You can file in Small Claims court for very little (keep your receipts and bills and vet statements to show the judge or magistrate.)

There are many sites that help you through the small claims court process.

Also that store and that breeder need to be reported.

Report the pet store to your State Attorney General for consumer fraud and selling sick and genetically defective animals.

Report to anyone who will listen! humane societies, advocacy groups, for instance this one http://www.njcapsa.org/ may be able to refer you to a group in your state to report the pet store, and the breeders state.

Go to the press with your story! That story is not only trafficking in animal abuse, they are cheating consumers!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164642.post-36246003321198399952008-04-13T18:43:00.000-07:002008-04-13T18:43:00.000-07:00I bought my beloved Maltese from Posh Puppy a litt...I bought my beloved Maltese from Posh Puppy a little less than three years ago - I saw him in the window and I fell in love. Unfortunately, $5,000 in vet bills later, we found out the he has a congenital liver problem which, of course, is not covered by pet insurance. He also has rotated front legs. We love him more than anything and he will never go without medical care. We were very fortunate to then rescue a Maltese from a wonderful pet rescue company and our two dogs are best friends. However, the rescue dog also has IBS and the vet bills are enormous. I never had Maltese dogs before (I usually adopt dogs) and did not realize the health issues and the puppy mill issues attached to these little guys. My husband and I love these dogs more than anything else and it makes me sick to think that there are more dogs out there like them with health issues that could have been prevented...we need to shut down those puppy mills. What about the poor people who buy (or even adopt) a pet and do not have the means to pay for the expensive care to keep their dogs happy and healthy. Somehow we need to figure out how to make the puppy mills pay for medical treatment for these dogs that they willingly and knowingly breed with congenital illnesses.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164642.post-75463075381191450952008-04-08T08:36:00.000-07:002008-04-08T08:36:00.000-07:00Posh Puppy is not so posh now.Posh Puppy is not so posh now.Richard Laplantehttp://www.myrotties.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164642.post-39350143528255998852008-04-08T05:09:00.000-07:002008-04-08T05:09:00.000-07:00You achieved your goal of exposing that store's pr...You achieved your goal of exposing that store's practice of buying from puppy mills--I'm so proud of you!ritahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08670685934653870752noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6164642.post-21806432025064170002008-04-06T16:35:00.000-07:002008-04-06T16:35:00.000-07:00BRAVO!!!!!BRAVO!!!!!waltnoreply@blogger.com
